Jerry started the agency in 1976 when he had two young kids, a mortgage payment, $1,500 in cash, a desk and a whole lot of nerve. The other asset he had was experience as Vice President and General Manager at one of the top creative agencies in the South. Now one of the icons of the Hampton Roads advertising industry, Jerry brings a unique combination of business smarts and creative talent to the agency’s clients. He is passionate about the business. He’s passionate about contemporary art. And he’s really passionate about his Harley-Davidson, which he’s ridden several times across the U.S. When he’s not on the open road he can be found in his kitchen trying out new recipes, tasting great wine and entertaining friends. His business acumen and generosity toward charitable organizations have cemented his popularity in the region.

Brantley joined the agency more than 20 years ago after a career in the television industry. As the Manager of the Washington D.C. office, he is the primary point of contact for the agency’s legislative and political clients. He is also the agency’s management contact for personal injury law firms throughout the U.S. His prior experience also includes marketing in the financial, health care and retail segments. His highly competitive demeanor is welcomed by his clients, contributing to the longevity of client relationships. He has helped to shape the immigration debate in America and was credited by the New York Times for directing the campaign that changed the balance of power in Congress in the 2000 elections. Brantley is a workout freak and can be found in the weight room when he’s not in the board room.

Sarah’s calm Minnesota demeanor serves her well in the fast-paced world of advertising. Guiding the agency’s client service, strategy and work flow, Sarah has the unique ability to drive success in a modern media landscape that seems to change by the day. Whether she’s bringing new clients aboard and getting to know their business, refining an existing client’s strategy, or tracking a new campaign’s results, Sarah’s passion is providing great customer service – and all the personalized attention it demands. Married with three great kids, Sarah graduated from St. Olaf College with a degree in English. She loves all things family, fashion and travel. And all things Minnesota, of course.

If he wanted to, Andy could run a restaurant. Fortunately he prefers the ad business. Andy has been with the agency 15 years after time on the client side. He is the agency’s franchise guru with senior marketing roles at Southland Corporation, Arby’s Inc., and the AFA Service Corporation. Andy has directed Arby’s advertising co-ops throughout the East Coast, from Virginia to upstate New York. He knows the quick service restaurant industry inside and out, and has skills and knowledge that can be applied to virtually any business. Andy is a basketball fanatic and is about the only golfer on the Davis team.

Sometimes careers take some odd twists and turns. After graduating from James Madison University, Will became a banker. While he was lending people money he became fascinated with the digital world and built his first website 12 years ago for which he charged $100. Soon he began investing in websites and domains and flipping them for a profit. He built his own interactive business after teaching himself the intricacies of code and programming languages. Will is not just a computer nerd. He is a big picture guy, digital designer, full-stack developer, analytic and manager. He is Google certified in search and analytics. He’s a golfer, snowboarder and Baltimore Orioles fanatic who can give you any Cal Ripken stat.

Some of us have trouble asking for exactly what we want. Carrie Woolridge never does. With a big laugh, long list of media contacts and deep industry insight, our Media Director is a skilled negotiator who treats every station, vendor and publication as her partner. And while she never demands a thing, she has no problem asking for it. No matter how low of a rate she gets. That’s part of what makes Carrie one of the region’s most widely known and respected media professionals. Planning, negotiating and buying media in more than 50 U.S. markets every year, she offers our clients more than 22 years of experience in broadcast, print, outdoor and digital media, serving a huge array of clients from Priority Automotive and CHKD to Troy University. We love every hilariously brilliant minute with Carrie. Even when she asks us for things. Chances are you will, too.

Before joining Davis as our Chief Financial Officer, Amy Bowden spent time as a Senior VP for a large commercial lender. She was also CFO/COO for a mechanical contractor, CFO for a family office and property management company, and CPA for a boutique public accounting firm serving high net-worth individuals, executives and business owners. Whoa. Lucky for us, Amy’s the CFO at Davis now. She manages all of the agency’s financial functions, from billing and accounting to payroll and human resources. More amazingly, she manages to keep it all on track. In her spare time, Amy loves ballroom dancing, spending time with her kids and sneaking away with her husband to their Charlottesville-area cabin. She’s also an avid foodie who loves to cook for people. Which is a huge coincidence because we love to eat! So what does Amy love most about working at an ad agency? Is it our astounding creativity? Our grace under pressure? Our profound wit and wisdom? Actually, no. “You’re not CPAs!” No lie, some of us can barely manage our lunch money. She’s helping with that, too.

Jessica Picardi is our resident social media expert. A Hampton Roads native, she graduated from Old Dominion University with a BS in Communications. Before finding her way to Davis Ad Agency, Jess began her social media career in the multifamily housing industry, handling all social media for over 100 local and national accounts at ForRent.com, where she quickly became a team leader. Nowadays, she manages all paid and organic social media content and online reputation management, integrating each client’s brand strategy into their social messaging. Jess takes pride in creating campaigns that customers love, igniting real results for our clients. In her downtime, Jess loves relaxing at home with her family, a full-bodied red in hand, trying out new recipes and documenting #momlife.

Sherri is a media powerhouse in the Washington, D.C. office. She has been an advertising media professional for more than 18 years. Prior to joining the Davis Agency, she was Ethnic Media Director with SportsPlus, an Omnicom Company. Sherri is a sports nut but especially likes college football and basketball. She is also very lucky. She has won the NFL pool run by the former Sports Editor for the Dallas Morning News. One of her favorite quotes is, “It’s beyond me why anyone would deprive themselves of my company.” We agree!

If there’s a word for that, we usually just ask Richard. Our resident wordsmith always knows. You may not know Richard, but you’ve likely seen his work. A nearly 20-year veteran of the Hampton Roads advertising market, Richard has helped dozens of brands make the most of their creative messaging. Digital, print, broadcast, public relations – you name, he’s probably written it. From Tidewater Community College, TakeORF.com and Outer Banks travel to the full client roster at Davis, Richard remains as passionate as ever about finding creative solutions that inspire consumers to action. A graduate of California State University, Richard began his career as a journalist before moving east and re-inventing himself as an ad copywriter. Today he’s a proud dad and husband, Little League coach, and the guy we look to find just the right words.

Paul Costen is our Director of Video. He’s also a motion designer, photographer and aspiring filmmaker who sings. A lot. He got up and sang at our company holiday party two weeks after joining us and won instant respect. He even sang once with Ben Folds, and there’s video to prove it. Paul joined us from Austin, Texas, where he worked as lead motion designer for the annual SXSW Festival. Before that, he lived … here, working with various Hampton Roads agencies to create spots for Google, Virginia Tourism, Dewalt/Stanley, Operation Smile, Currituck County NC Tourism, Norfolk International Airport and Checkered Flag Auto Group. Today, he makes videos and TV spots for all our clients. Need someone to sing a jingle? We know a guy.

Born in Vietnam and raised right here in Virginia Beach, Minh Nguyen has a set of particular talents that’s he’s been refining since he got into web development, art design and digital illustration in 2012. Whether it’s a vintage motorbike, a stunning homepage takeover or some serious ink, Minh excels at creating and appreciating beauty. He knows it’s the personal touches that take something from “That’s nice” to “HOLY SH—!” Now Davis is fortunate that he brings that unique perspective and dedication to our office every day. (Although rarely in the same set of wheels.) Let’s face it… with this much creativity and style, why not share as much as possible with the world?

The thing about growing up on the Beach is, it’s really hard to leave. Our Account Manager Allison Beasley tried. She spent six amazing years working for the Ad Council in Washington D.C. on great accounts like Adoption from Foster Care, Wildfire Prevention/Smokey Bear and Lupus Awareness. The work instilled a lifelong passion for non-profit work … and advertising. A graduate of Villanova University, Allison loves her work here and her role on the Crush Cancer board that benefits the Cycle for Survival organization. When we asked what she loves doing outside of work, she mentioned family, great wine, summer bike rides, golden retrievers … oh, and the beach. How could she forget that?

The first thing you’ll probably notice about Albert Barber is that he’s tall. Like, really tall. Maybe that’s how he can see things coming from a mile away. Albert started here as an intern and we liked his work ethic so much we didn’t let him leave. Now an account coordinator, Albert takes care of all the little details on some of our largest accounts, keeping our projects on track, our clients up to date and making sure nothing slips between the cracks. A graduate of Flagler College with a bachelor’s in Strategic Communication, Albert spends his off hours surfing. He also enjoys surfing, surfing and surfing. Trust us, if you’re on the beach, you can see him from a mile away.

Is everyone from Cincinnati this quiet? We’re still not sure. Fresh from Ohio, Brady Heinrich moved to Virginia Beach and joined Davis as our Digital Marketing Specialist. So far he’s been really busy. And really quiet. Brady calls it “calm, collected and independent.” We’ll take it, because his work is great, helping our clients – and us – navigate the constantly evolving world of digital marketing. His reports, packed with statistics, analysis and insight, are already the stuff of Davis legend. With a bachelor’s in Business Administration-Marketing from the University of Cincinnati’s Lindner College of Business, Brady previously worked as Marketing Director at Rae Dental Group in Cincinnati, Ohio. In his free time, he likes playing basketball, gaming, watching sports and obsessing over fantasy football. Quietly obsessing, that is.

Jay Spiegel always tells us about the great beer he’s brewing but it somehow never makes it into the office. What gives? Jay is our talented art director/graphic designer and all around go-to guy when we need something done fast and done well. If you’ve seen our work, you’ve seen Jay’s work. He’s worked on every account designing everything from print, digital and social media ads to t-shirts, surfboards and billboards. Jay joined us with a bachelor’s in graphic design and creative advertising from James Madison University. He also plays a mean banjo. And brews beer. At least that’s what he tells us.

Daryl Strawhand is our master of e-marketing and landing page development … and a silent assassin on the office dart board. A skilled developer and designer, Daryl’s calm demeanor belies the more than 60 email campaigns he designs, builds and distributes every month, and the roughly 800,000 subscribers on the receiving end. Unlike other digital mediums, once an “eblast” goes out, there’s no taking it back. Daryl makes sure everything is exactly perfect every time. Before joining Davis, he spent nearly four years as senior web designer at InMotion Hosting and earned his bachelor’s degree in Web Development from ECPI. Just don’t let that friendly smile fool you. Challenge him to darts at your own risk.

A self-taught graphic designer, Karl takes his work very seriously … but he’s laid back about it! A veteran of branding and development for startups, higher ed, and nonprofit ventures, Karl brings a fresh perspective to our visual creative team. In his off hours, he devotes his time to Philly sports (he says he’s a “fan” not a “Phanatic”), music (both listening and drumming) and the small-screen thrills of “Survivor” and “Game of Thrones.” Karl is a self-described “certified cat dad” who married way out of his league. (That’s so Karl.)

Erin graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a major in Public Relations and joined Davis as an advertising assistant where she managed clients, answered phones and fielded visitors, all while mastering the art of social-speak. With her positive attitude and finger on the pulse of social media, Erin is a finely tuned digital marketing machine. When the workday ends, she’s either home playing with her two Siberian huskies, hitting the beach, riding bikes, watching baseball, rock climbing and/or inhaling delicious sushi. After interning with us in 2017, we kept in touch and when she graduated from Virginia Wesleyan with a major in communications, we convinced her to sign on as a full timer! As a softball national champion (twice!) and northern Virginia native, it’s only natural that she loves Washington sports (go Nats!) and will cheat on her diet for a ballpark beer … or Dunkin’ Donuts. When she’s not providing top tier service to our clients, you can find her watching every season of “Friends” from the beginning – because she’ll be there for youuuuu!

The newest addition to our copywriting team, Heather is a real-life Hampton Roads native and the eldest of five siblings, an experience which taught her at a young age how to use language to persuade and inspire. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Modern Languages from Winthrop University, Heather dove into digital marketing for clients ranging from non-profit software to motorcycles, mom-and-pop retail to island resorts. She approaches each new copywriting challenge with wit, enthusiasm, and a sense of humor drier than a bottle of cabernet franc. On the weekends, she can be found nerding out to medieval history, reading too many books, and learning baffling new skills like mead brewing and goat herding.

When Richmond native Miles Wilhelm accepted the position of front-end web developer, we knew he’d fit right in. From his serious digital chops to his advertising background, he’s got what it takes to ensure our clients get the best web services around. But here at Davis, we don’t just work hard, we play hard, too. That’s where Miles runs circles around us! He’s into playing basketball and board games — Codenames, Settlers of Catan, Pandemic, all the classics — and cheering on his favorite sports teams: Green Bay Packers football, Milwaukee Bucks basketball, and Everton FC English Premier League soccer. If you can catch him, you’ll find him spending quality time with his wife and the newest member of their family, a 5-pound Shih Tzu Yorkie named Davie. (All together now… “Awww!”)

If there’s one thing you gotta know about accountant Wendy, it’s that she’s so much more than meets the eye. Sure, she’s got over 25 years of experience in Office & Operations Management and she’s been in the marketing and web design industry since 2013, but she’s also a talented visual artist as well. From macrame to graphic design to photography, Wendy is always creating something gorgeous and fun. Speaking of photography, she’s a pro. Her portfolio is over 100,000 photos strong, thanks to her work over the last 15 years as a freelance theatre and dance photographer. Maybe that’s why she loves working here at Davis! You know what they say about creatives… it takes one to know one. (Or is it “creatives of a feather flock together”?) Either way, we’re delighted to have Wendy on our team.

Brian Stauss joins the Davis team after 8 years of advertising in the for-profit education industry. Born in South Carolina before moving to Chesapeake in the 80’s, Brian quickly discovered that Hampton Roads does not have our own major league sports teams. ZERO. So like most of us, he became a fan of the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Redskins. (Okay, so the Redskins training camp is in nearby Richmond and our Norfolk Tides baseball team is Baltimore’s Triple-A Affiliate, so we figure that’s about as local as it gets!) When he’s not helping our clients reach thousands of potential customers—and saving buckets of money at the same time!—you can find him alongside his lovely fiancé KC in the stands at athletic fields around town, cheering on their two superstars Grace and Dean, relaxing down at the VB oceanfront, or hanging out with the rest of his family (including his fur babies Wendy, Max, and Gunner).

Katie recently returned to the States after living on the island of Guam for the past 3 years with her husband, who was stationed there with the U.S. Navy. She left with two suitcases… and returned with a golden retriever and a son named Jackson! Katie has plenty of customer service panache, an endless supply of energy and, as a loyal North Philadelphia native, a lifelong passion for Philly sports teams—Eagles, Phillies, Sixers, Flyers, you name it. Kate MacCallum, our newest social media specialist, is a MacGyver on mobile, a Picasso in Photoshop and an all-around great sport! (You wouldn’t believe the things we must do sometimes to get just the right look for a photoshoot.) A self-taught visual artist, Kate graduated with a bachelor’s in theatre and French. Combine that with her love of advertising as high stakes storytelling and you know she’s got exactly what it takes to enthrall our clients’ fans and followers on social media. When she’s not out chilling on the water, she’s filling in as a body double for Gwyneth Paltrow on the set of “Iron Man”—no, really!—or baking delicious cookies. Both equally impressive, if we’re being honest.
